Cloudberry joins Maria01 in Helsinki
Cloudberry VC is setting up its home base at Maria01, the largest startup campus in the Nordics, located in the heart of Helsinki, Finland.
Maria01 is a former hospital complex that has been transformed into a thriving hub for startups, investors, and technology companies. It's home to over 170 companies and organisations working across deep tech, sustainability, and digital innovation. For a semiconductor-focused fund, it's the ideal base — close to Finland's strong engineering talent pool and connected to the broader Nordic and European deep tech ecosystem.
"Helsinki might surprise people as a base for a semiconductor VC," said Founding Partner René Kromhof. "But Finland has an incredible tradition in electronics engineering — from Nokia's legacy to the thriving research ecosystem at VTT and Aalto University. And Maria01 gives us a community of founders and investors who think in decades, not quarters."
The Nordic region has a growing cluster of semiconductor and deep tech activity. Finland's VTT Technical Research Centre is a leader in photonics and quantum technology. Sweden is home to major semiconductor design operations. And the Nordics more broadly have produced world-class companies in sensing, connectivity, and power electronics.
Cloudberry's team operates across Europe, with partners based in Helsinki, Zurich, and the Netherlands. Maria01 serves as the fund's operational headquarters, where the team hosts events, meets founders, and collaborates with the broader deep tech community.
